NAIROBI'S AWESOME SITES - Part I




Nairobi is one of the largest and fastest growing cities in Africa, it’s Kenya’s principal economic, administrative, and cultural center. Below are different sites in Nairobi that are worth visiting during your spare time.  For more information on a particular site please contact the relevant office/website.

Arboretum
It is a popular recreational park for many city residents looking for tranquility, holding picnics and others who go to hold different activities. I assure you this is the site to visit. 
Attractions
The Arboretum combines space, fresh air, and pristine forest, its protected forest reserve holds different species of indigenous and exotic plants, birds and a significant number of Monkeys.

Location of the Nairobi Arboretum
The Arboretum is situated 3km from the city center. For those who don’t drive it can easily be accessed on foot through State House Road, past St. Paul’s Cathedral near University of Nairobi
Another entrance to the park is on Arboretum Drive in Kileleshwa.

Entry Requirements
The Park is open for free to the public except for a parking fee.

Bomas of Kenya
Consist of cultural attractions and also hosts daily shows and dances in the afternoons.  The Bomas also has a children’s playground plus a restaurant and a bar.

Central Park
Central Park has well maintained gardens, interspersed with shade trees

Attractions
It has a Children’s playground with a wide range of facilities and a huge monument where professional photographers like to hang around and take pictures of visitors for a fee. The Park is also used as a picnic site.

Locating Central Park
The park is located behind Nairobi Serena Hotel; it occupies an area bounded by Kenyatta Avenue, Nyerere Avenue and Uhuru Highway.

Entry Requirements
The Park is open for free to the public, therefore people can visit the site at any time. The Nairobi City Council, however, charges for use of toilet facilities in the Park.

City Park
Nairobi City Park stands above most in its rich biodiversity with indigenous tree species that are endemic to Kenya.   

Tucked away on a portion of the Park is a public cemetery and adjacent to this cemetery is Murumbi Peace Memorial Park.

Attractions
There are nature trails for nature lovers and runners who come to jog. It is also used as a picnic site.

Locating City Park
The Park is situated in Parklands area, for those using public means; board Matatu No. 11A, 106, 107 at Koja (Old Nation House) bus terminus or matatu No.100 at Bus Station (BS)

Entry Requirements
The Park is open for free to the public. There is a charge for use of the toilet facilities in the Park.

Giraffe Centre

Attractions
This is a rare view of Rothschild giraffe at close quarters where you can hand-feed these elegant giants from the safety of a raised wooden platform. 

Locating Giraffe Centre
Giraffe Centre is located in Langata, for those using public means; board Matatu No.24 at Railways Bus Terminus, at Kencom House bus terminus or at Bus Station (BS)

Karen Blixen Museum
It is open to the public every day from 9.30a.m to 6p.m.

Attractions
The museum shop offers handicrafts etc. The site can also be used for different functions.

Karura Forest
Karura is a safe haven for nature-lovers.

Attractions
One can take pleasure in the biking trails. It has walking paths, waterfalls, a natural lake, caves and picnic spots to visit.
