NAIROBI'S AWESOME SITES - Part III




The exciting sites and destinations to visit in Nairobi have varied attractions and fees charged, but one thing is for sure that you will have a wonderful time in whichever site you choose to visit depending on your taste and preference.


Oloolua Nature Trail
Oloolua forest is home to the Institute of Primate Research (IPR).  It provides an oasis of tranquility for city residents looking to escape the city hustle and bustle.

Attractions
The activities include short hike, jog along the trail, or just for a relaxing picnic. Organized groups also come to learn about environmental conservation through guided tours in the forest. There is a cave, a papyrus swamp further down the river and a secure campsite complete with tap water, drop toilets, and firewood for lighting a bonfire but you will have to bring your own tent, food and cooking utensils though. There is also is a 20-foot waterfall close to the forest entrance.

Locating Oloolua Nature Trail
Oloolua Nature Trail is located in Karen. To visit Oloolua using public means; board Matatu No.24 at Railways Bus Terminus or at Kencom House bus terminus and alight at the junction of Bogani Road and Karen Road near Karen Blixen Museum.  Oloolua Nature Trail is 600 meters to your left.

When to Visit
The Nature Trail can be visited any day from 9a.m to 6p.m

Entry Requirements
There is a fee charged for one to enter, the fee is varied on whether one is a citizen, student or Resident. The fee is also charged depending on whether people are going to camp, Team building, or other activities such as church, commercial, meetings, parties e.t.c

Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost is said to be the largest picnic site in the city, it offers a myriad of attractions and family activities. It has this ancient caves eroded by the waters of Gichi River and a spectacular waterfall.

Attractions
The activities at the site include; boat riding, fishing on the small lake, Ostrich feeding, Horse riding, camel riding, camping, taking a walk on  nature trails.

Locating Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost is located off Kiambu Road just after the Evergreen Center.  To visit Paradise Lost using public means, board Matatu No.100 from opposite St. Peter Claviers Catholic Church or near OTC/Salvation Army areas.

Entry Requirements
Visitors are required to pay an entrance fee.  All activities are included in the entrance fee except for boat riding, horse riding and camel riding.

Splash Water World
Splash Water World is a recreational site. 

Attractions
The activities include; water slides, camel rides, beach volleyball and kiddy cars

The Splash Water World next to the Carnivore Restaurant.  From the city board matatu number.15 from Central Bus Terminus (BS)

Uhuru Gardens
Uhuru Gardens has a paddle boats for rent in the man-made lake, shrub-lined walkways, and extensive areas for picnics or general relaxation.

Locating Uhuru Gardens
Uhuru Gardens is situated in the Langata area of Nairobi, along Langata Road, bordering Carnivore Restaurant to the south, and Wilson Airport to the east.

To visit Uhuru Gardens using public means; Board Matatu No. 24,126 from Railways Bus Terminus or matatu no.15 from Central Bus Station (BS)

Entry Requirements
The Park is open for free to the public

Uhuru Park
It's one of the most attractive green spaces in the city; it has expensive lawns, shade trees, monuments and well tended gardens.  

Attractions
There is boat riding and several foot bridges.  For picnic lovers, Uhuru Park provides the ideal setting.

Locating Uhuru Park
The Park is situated along Uhuru Highway, bounded by Kenyatta Avenue to the North.

Entry Requirements
The Park is open for free to the Public.  The Nairobi City County however, charges for boat rides and for the use of toilet facilities in the Park.

Village Market
The Village Market in Gigiri has an assortment of family activities. Therefore it is worth visiting more especially for family outings. 

Attractions
Bowling, mini-golfing, football, pool tables, bouncing castles, water slides and a children’s playing ground.

Board Matatu No. 106 at Koja (Old Nation House) bus terminus

Entry Requirements
There is a parking fee per visit and they charge for recreational activities that they offer
