NAIROBI'S MOST DANGEROUS MATATU TERMINI

As a commuter at a matatu terminus all you would think about is how to get to your intended destination and have some rest. In broad daylight or in darkness nothing seems to scare them as they roam in strategic sections like bus termini to rob passengers of valuables with little if any resistance.  Criminals target matatu termini because they know that when people are traveling they tend to carry extra money and also they may get a little confused because of the luggage and commotion.  The most dangerous matatu termini in Nairobi are:

Upcountry and Intercity Termini
Upcountry and Intercity Termini are among the most notorious areas for criminals in Nairobi, therefore are considered the among the most dangerous places in Nairobi.  Being used for long distance travel they are believed to have passengers with a lot of luggage or even traveling with children.  Such situations are bound to bring about confusion and therefore the criminals take advantage of that to target the victims.

While in the waiting bays, either waiting to travel or traveled at night and waiting for daybreak, be very careful because the robbers also target their victims in those areas.  Here they will sit next to you and wait for you to catch a nap because most likely you are tired from the journey and that is when they attack or even rob from you when you are very awake.

Some of these upcountry bus termini include;
The notorious Country bus terminus,
Uganda based bus termini along River Road,
Tea Room Bus terminus,
Easy Coach Bus terminus more especially at the waiting bays.

Kencom Bus Terminus
Kencom House Bus Terminus has been mentioned severally by various victims. Here the robbers target passengers who are going to hospitals more especially Kenyatta Hospital, because they are believed to be carrying a lot of money to cater for hospital bills.

Other Termini that are Dangerous Spots
In the Nairobi city center, criminal gangs also prey on their victims at the following matatu termini:
Railways Station Bus Terminus
National Archives bus stage on Tom Mboya Street,
Khoja Mosque,
Gill House,
Ronald Ngala/Tom Mboya street junctions

Possible Crimes Around these matatu termini are; Robberies, Pickpocketing, Mugging

More Tips
Be wary of people wanting to carry luggage for you. Some of this people could be robbers and might disappear with your luggage into thin air more especially where there many people and you are not fast enough to follow him.

Do not put all the money you have in one place.  This will help because in case the pickpockets manage to get through to your purse/wallet; you would still be left with something to take you to your intended destination.

While at the waiting bays do not leave your luggage with strangers.  In most cases the criminals pretend to be very friendly and willing to help not knowing that they are only after your valuables.
