THE MOST DANGEROUS STREETS IN NAIROBI CITY

Nairobi is the nerve center of Kenya’s economy and political leadership.  The streets of Nairobi City are where most people will tell you that they have been victims to different criminals. Therefore they identify particular streets to be the most dangerous areas in Nairobi.   The mentioned streets are those that are considered to be among the most dangerous places in Nairobi therefore, when there always be alert.

As a general rule, most areas West of Moi Avenue are safe during the day. As you go East of Moi, however, Nairobi becomes more dangerous. Tom Mboya Street is moderately risky, and it gets increasingly more so as you go eastward. The infamous River Road and everything east of it is the most dangerous area of town.

Downtown Areas
While at the downtown area of Nairobi, especially around River Road, you are advised not to walk around with flashy stuff, jewelry, cameras or watches on show.  Don't flash your cash when buying something. Keep a firm grip on your bag if you have one and never take a stranger's invitation to enter a building.  Downtown south and downtown west is safer than downtown north and downtown east.

Biashara Street
Biashara Street, which until a few years ago was considered safe, is now one of the most dangerous streets/areas in Nairobi.  Many daylight robberies have been reported by shop owners. Their customers have also been targeted by muggers and carjackers.

Uhuru Highway around Makaburini Area
Along Uhuru Highway the gangs melt into Uhuru Park’s tunnel of horror upon accomplishing their vicious missions, sometimes dragging their victims along.

Juja Road/Outer Ring Road Roundabout
These areas have become criminal dens, especially in the early morning and at night

Other crime spots are;
At the Railway Bridge near Riadha House
The Railway Bridge on Outer Ring Road and

More Tips
Watch out for unscrupulous children on intersections and on the highways.

Keep out of dark and deserted streets and alleys, stay in the main streets where there are people on the move.

Never encourage beggars or roll down your windows. Beware of people coming up to you, to offer assistance.

These gangs sometimes boldly accost female pedestrians, grab their handbags, and assault their victims under the pretext that it is a domestic tussle.

Possible crimes around these areas are; Robberies, Pickpocketing, Kidnapping, Mugging, Carjacking, Rape

The most dangerous places or streets in Nairobi may change from time to time but there are those that are known from time to time; like River Road. All these contribute to crime rate in Nairobi and Kenya as a whole.
