TRICKS THUGS USE TO CARJACK AND ROB MOTORISTS IN NAIROBI

Nairobians beware; criminals are each day changing the tactics that they use to carjack and rob.  They are no longer waylaying their victims in dark alleys under the cover of darkness. Here below are some of the tricks these criminals use to attack innocent victims and how these criminals operate. There are notorious spots that are considered the most dangerous areas when it comes to carjacking and robberies.
Ø  Fender Bender – this is where the criminals slam on the brakes too suddenly, causing the motorists behind to hit their car then they attack.

Ø  In some cases they will wait for the victims at their residence gate, and as they wait for the gate to be opened; they approach them armed with a pistol or AK-47 rifle and order them to alight or they might decide to put them in the boot and go round as they rob other innocent victims.

Ø  Bump-and rob – this is where they bump the rear of the victim’s car and attack when the motorist stops to check for damage and exchange information.

Ø  At times these criminals may go to an extent of pretending to have been involved in an accident.  Thinking it is a normal accident someone may volunteer to help only for the occupants in the damaged car to jump out and point pistols at the person.

Ø  The thugs might wait as the victim has gone to the bank or ATM and they then pounce and bundle their targets in their cars before driving off, in full glare of the public which mistakes the victim for a wanted criminal, “These criminals then rob the victims during the drive.

Ø  Be careful when strangers try to alert you to a problem with your vehicles.  “Look around and check out the car in the rear view and side mirrors. Do not stop if you feel it is not safe.

Ø  Some of these criminals pose as police officers on patrol as they accost their victims in broad daylight.

Ø  They at times pretend to be seeking for help may be with a sick person. They are mostly found at some of the routes that are most likely not frequented with many matatus.  In most cases there will be a distressed man holding a little wrapped baby and besides him there could lay someone who seems unconscious.  These people will pretend and when they spot a motorist they try stopping him/her seeking for help, once you stop to assist them they just turn on you and you end up becoming their victim.

I believe there is more to this; so be your brother’s keeper and help each other not to fall into prey. Help others identify some of these tricks/tactics that are used by criminals and the spots where these crimes  happen. Let others beware of how these criminals operate so as to be always a step ahead of them.
