While in Matatus; most likely the prey get drugged and robbed
of their belongings while unconscious as the thugs alight along the way leaving
them with nothing. Always make sure that
you know where your luggage is and learn not to put all your cash in one place;
even veterans get pick-pocketed and never realize how it happened. Let us be vigilant enough and uncover the tactics these criminals use to rob and get to know how they operate.
Ø In
matatus, more especially buses, there are these people who pretend to be passengers
but their real intention is to drug genuine passengers and rob them of their belongings.
These criminals
will sit next to you and at times pretend as if they are trying to put on or
remove a sweater and intentionally pass their hands near your nose so that you
may inhale the substance. Without
realizing it you get unconscious and they rob you and alight from the matatu,
by the time you get back to your senses, you have nothing and you are left
stranded in unfamiliar place.
They (thugs) at
times carry paper bags and sit next to the person they intend to rob and once
their time to execute their plan reaches they pretend to be removing something
from the paper bags while trying to block your face with their arms not knowing
that those arms are the ones with the drug.
Ø While
in a matatu (more especially the Nissan Matatus), be careful with your phone
and even ladies’ bags. These criminals
always target matatus that are a bit low more especially Nissan matatus, in
this way they don’t have to strain trying to reach their target. They would spot a passenger with a phone most
likely those sitting near the window. They follow the matatu swiftly knowing
that there is a point the matatu will slow down due to traffic jam. Once the
matatu slows down, within a second they have opened the window taken the phone
and disappeared into thin air. Some of them will stay in areas characterized
with huge traffic jam and wait to attack from there.
Ø Mostly
in long distance travel; some of the criminals will get into buses and sit next
to their target and once the bus stops for people to stretch out and eat
something before they proceed, they pretend to have bought something and would
like to share with their prey.
Unknowingly, since the person might be looking so presentable and may
have had a chat along the way; the victim might agree to take what is being
offered, therefore getting drugged and robbed of everything they had.
Beware that these criminals can
get cash from your pocket/bag without you realizing it; and this is done in
broad daylight and when you are very conscious. This doesn't necessarily happen in areas that are considered the most dangerous. Crime in Nairobi kenya happens in many ways.
