HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS IN MOMBASA KENYA - Part I




Mombasa is Kenya’s main port and popular holiday city.  It is frequented by many tourists both local and foreign which makes it the preferred holiday destination in Kenya for many.  This is so because it has quite a variety of tourist attractions.  It is situated on an island in a natural sheltered inlet.  It is separated from the mainland by two creeks – Tudor Creek and Kilindini Harbor. Here below are some of the awesome attractions in Mombasa, places to visit and things to do while in Mombasa . 

Amboseli National Park
Amboseli is a popular park with breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro (in Tanzania).  It was established as a reserve in 1968 and gazetted as a National park in 1974. It is among the top tourist attractions in Mombasa.

Tourist Attractions and Holiday Events
Amboseli is home to more than 50 species of mammal and over 400 species of bird. You can see elephant, hippo, cheetah, leopard and many more.

The events in Mombasa, are numerous as there are also several camp sites for people who would like to go camping. 

Location of the Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park lies on the North West of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Kenya, at the border of Kenya and Tanzania.  It is centered around observation Hill which offers a great view of the plains below. 

Best time to Visit the Park
The best time to visit the Park would be from June – October.

Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve
Arabuko Sokoke is a great tourist attraction in Kenya. It has a variety of tourist attractions that are worth visiting while in Mombasa.

Arabuko National Park is an awesome attraction in mombasa.  It is an important habitat for endemic/endangered birds, insects and mammals which are the major tourist attractions. 

Location of Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve
Arabuko Sokoke is located at the coastal region of Kenya.   It is located in Kilifi approximately 110km North of Mombasa town. 

Bamburi Beaches
These are very nice beaches on the North coast e.g,. Mombasa Serena Beach, Whitesands Beach e.t.c

The beaches provide an ideal space for parties and also nature walk, therefore while on vacation at Mombasa be sure that there will be lots of things to do. 

Location of Bamburi Beaches
The beaches are located at the Northern part of Mombasa City. 

Bombolulu Workshops
Bombolulu Workshop Centre is run by the Association for the physically disabled and most of the workers are disabled.  They produce jewelry, hand printed textiles, wood carvings and leather crafts which are sold in large showrooms and some exported to other countries. 

The Workshops have grown to be among the biggest rehabilitation centers in Kenya and has built a reputation as one of Kenyans most reliable exporters.  They are a major tourist attraction which consists of a cultural Centre with homesteads and traditional restaurants that entertains guests with traditional dances throughout the day.  
Attractions
The attractions include Art and Craft products exhibited in the Showrooms; these products include jewelry, hand printed textiles, wood carvings and also leather crafts.   

The traditional homesteads exhibit the culture of the locals which draws so many tourists across to come and learn more about different cultures. 

The Local delicacy from the traditional restaurants gives tourist a taste of different dishes from the coast as they are entertained by traditional dancers.

The Bombolulu workshops are located along the north coast of Mombasa.
