HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS IN MOMBASA KENYA - Part II

Mombasa is well known for its ancient buildings, extravagant art designs and curio shops that sell antique and popular Kenyan souvenirs that are awesome attractions.  The Island is connected to the mainland to the north by the Nyali Bridge, to the south by the Likoni Ferry and to the West by the Makupa Causeway, alongside which runs the Kenya-Uganda railway that makes it an ideal holiday destination in Kenya.  Below are more of the places to visit while in Mombasa. There are lots of events and things to do while on vacation in Mombasa.

Coral Palm Beach
The Coral Beach is a tourist attraction resort with huge sandy beach spread over one kilometer long.  The sand is of a very characteristic white color.  The water is deep and you will have to pass over coral reef several meters from the sea shore to get to the deep water.

The part of the beach, next to the seashore, is allowed for the locals. It is where they can contact tourists offering souvenirs, fishing boats or safari tours.

Coral Reefs, Sandy beach.

Crocodile Village

This is one of the places to visit while in Mombasa for a vacation.

Tourist Attractions and Holiday Events
There is also a vantage point on the bridge where every afternoon the highlight is when the crocodiles are being fed in the water below. It is quite scary to see how high they can jump to get the food when being fed.

Fort Jesus
Fort Jesus is mombasa’s top tourist attraction as it dominated the harbor entrance.  This Portuguese fortress was built in 1593 to fend off local enemies and foreign warships.  The fort had living quarters for the Portuguese and later the Arabs, torture rooms and prison cells where slaves were kept in captivity before being shipped away.  Old Town is best seen when explored by foot with an experienced guide, as the streets are too narrow to accommodate a large number of vehicles.

Tourist Attractions
The remains of the fort provide an interesting tour back through history and a small museum features a variety of relics. And this make it an amazing tourist attraction in Kenya, therefore travel to Mombasa and see this awesome fortress.

Fort Jesus is now a museum with many archaeological findings, therefore many tourist visit the place to experience heritage and culture.

Location of Fort Jesus
Fort Jesus is located on Mombasa Island to guard the Old Port of Mombasa, Kenya.  It overlooks the entrance of the old port of Mombasa.

Opening Hours
Fort Jesus is open daily from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm.

Haller Park (Bamburi Nature Trail)
The Haller Park - formerly known as Bamburi Nature Trail is the largest animal sanctuary in Mombasa, it is an awesome attraction in Mombasa.  Once a barren limestone quarry from the years of mining, has turned out to be a thriving coastal forest.  Its success is largely due to Rene Haller, an agro forester who since the 1970s has been the force behind its transformation.

Tourist Attractions and Holiday Events
The park boasts an enormous variety of animals, reptiles, insects and botanical gardens. Walking along the trail is the ideal way to look at the various animals.  It is also a habitat for a large number of flora and fauna species, butterfly pavilion.  Animals such as duiker antelopes, herds of eland and Oryx are some of the animals you come across in the forest

There are nature routes in the forest trails for cycling, jogging as well as walking

Location of Haller Park
It is located next to the Bamburi Cement Factory. It is located along the stretch between Bamburi Cement and Shanzu.  It was an old cement quarry which has been reclaimed and turned into a tropical forest. There is a nature trail there as well

Hindu Temples

Tourist Attractions
They are a popular and a tour can be taken inside the temple, with a historical background of the particular temple given by one of the temple gurus.
Extravagant idols and stone carvings of the various religious beliefs are typically displayed within the temple and the walls, all this is a great tourist attraction for both locals and foreigners.

With all these events and top tourist attractions I believe your next vacation will be in Mombasa.
