HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS IN MOMBASA KENYA - Part IV



The coast is home to ancient Swahili civilizations and old port towns that are rich in a history of exotic spice trading and fighting.  With all this and many more you can be sure that it is an amazing holiday destination in Kenya with awesome tourist attractions for people from all over. Below are the places to visit and things to do while in Mombasa.

Lamu
Lamu is one of Kenya’s oldest towns, settled by the Swahili. It is an awesome tourist attraction in Mombasa. More recently discovered by backpackers, Lamu is a great place to unwind and wash off the dirt and grime accumulated from some hard traveling.  No matatus or mini-buses here, just donkeys and the sound of the ocean waves.

There are so many things to do, like you can take a Dhow and explore the islands or enjoy wandering the narrow alleys of Lamu's old town.

Likoni Ferry
Most of the people who visit mombasa will always make an effort of taking a ride on the Likoni Ferry before the get back home. It is Mombasa top tourist attraction.

Makupa Market
The Makupa Market is the largest market in Mombasa: the old market is inside a large building but all around it - along the streets of the surrounding area - there is still the rest of the market.

The Makupa Market is a colorful place selling a wide range of produce: fruit, meat, vegetables... but also khangas, shoes, pots... and anything else.

It's located off Mwembe Tayari, which is roughly where the matatu and bus station is.

Malindi Marine National Park
Malindi Marine National Park is Africa’s Oldest Marine Park, famous for the Zebra fish.

The park is located about 118 km north east of Mombasa town, south of Malindi town, Kenya.

Malindi and Watamu
Malindi is a small town, but the beaches that surround it make it one of Kenya's top attractions and one of the holiday destinations in Kenya.  Further south is Watamu, a National Park with two main lagoons, turtle Bay and Blue Lagoon. 

Tourist Attractions and Holiday Events
Silversands lies just south of town and is lined with villas and small resorts. A Marine Park keeps the area free from fishing and therefore great for snorkeling.

Things to do include sunset sails on a dhow (traditional sailboat), sunbathing, dolphin watching, diving and all kinds of water sports.

Mamba Village

Attractions and Events
It is a tourist attraction where one gets to see a spectacular scene of blood thirsty crocodiles in a frenzy and more especially during feeding time.

Excellent cuisine is available at the Mamba Restaurant, and the house specialty is superbly grilled crocodile meat. Souvenirs of your visit can be bought at the Mamba Souvenir shop located within the village.  

A vacation at mombasa; specifically at Mamba Village leaves you with so many things to do; for example a tour of the farm starts with a movie on the life cycle and behavior of crocodiles, followed by a comprehensive tour of the rest of farm.
