HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS IN MOMBASA KENYA - Part VI



Mombasa is a tourist attraction city and if you are planning to visit this coastal town be sure that you will not be disappointed. It is a holiday destination in Kenya and has awesome tourist attractions and many places to visit while in Mombasa.

Pirathes Beach
Pirathes Beach is part of Bamburi Beach Resort which is several kilometers long.

Attractions and Holiday Events
 It is a favorite beach for the locals and so many school excursions that come here from all over Kenya.

Rabai Museum
Rabai is the place where Christianity and modern learning in Kenya started, it is a place worth visiting while in Mombasa.  It was established in 1846, by Dr Ludwig Krapf as the first church edifice in Kenya.

Tourist Attractions and Holiday Events
Visitors can have a walk in the sacred Kaya forest of the Mijikenda people and a stop at the first church built in the interior a few meters away from the museum.

Location of Rabai Museum
Rabai is 25 kilometers northwest of Mombasa off the Nairobi–Mombasa highway on the Mazeras – Kaloleni road.

 Research Institute of Swahili Studies of Eastern Africa (RISSEA)

Tourist Attractions
The showroom has Swahili carvings of chests and embroidery.

RISSEA is next to Mombasa Hospital and in Lamu it is at the Lamu fort.

Sea Fishing (Deep Sea Fishing)
Giriama Beach is among the ideal places that one can visit if planning to go for sea fishing.   The Moorings restaurant at Mtwapa creek is also among the other places to visit.

There are a lot of activities that you can enjoy doing. One can take a nearby tour to Deep Sea fishing of vibrant beautiful fishes, the experience is unforgettable!

The Best Season for Sea Fishing
Best season is generally between August and April.

Shimba Hills National Reserve
This reserve is a great option for holiday makers who fancy a day away from the town and the beach.

Tourist Attractions and Events
It is among the top tourist attractions in Mombasa.  It is the only reserve in the country where you will see sable antelope, thus a unique holiday destination in Kenya.  The reserve has rolling hills covered in jungle and grassland.

At the baited water hole at Shimba Lodge it is possible that you will see leopard and so many elephants. Shimba Lodge is a charming Treetops-type lodge with pleasant atmosphere.

The ecosystem comprises of a heterogeneous habitat including forest lands, exotic plantations, scrub lands and grasslands.

Location of Shimba Hills National Reserve
Shimba Hills is located 56km south of Mombasa town, in Kwale district of coast province, Kenya.

Shiva Hindu Temple
There are several Hindu temples in Mombasa: with the oldest one and the newest one being the most interesting.

Tourist Attractions
It is a linear white-washed building with a tall tower/spire.  It is simple in its architecture and therefore quite pleasant. Inside the temple there is a statue garden with its ponds and chapel-like constructions that are very peaceful and pleasant. The one dedicated to Shiva is in the middle of a little artificial lake.

Shree Swaminarayam Temple
Mombasa is home of a large Hindu community: mainly rich merchants from India and their families. It was not a surprise therefore to learn that there are several Hindu temples in Mombasa.

Tourist Attractions
The beauty of this temple is quite amazing; it has a brightly decorated door at the entrance of the building and a lively prayer hall on the ground floor; such a great tourist attraction

There are so many things to do as well as awesome tourist attractions in Mombasa, therefore take a vacation and travel to Mombasa and I promise you will have a great time.
