HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS IN MOMBASA KENYA - Part VII

Mombasa being one of Kenya’s major holiday destinations has various awesome tourist attractions and so many things to do while on vacation or even during weekend breaks. Get to know the different events that can be undertaken at the sites given and make an effort to visit at least one or two.
Tana River Primate Reserve

Attractions
The ecosystem consists of riparian forests, dry woodlands and savannah habitats on the east and west of the lower Tana River.

Location of Tana River Primate Reserve
The Tana River Primate Reserve is located 350km east of Nairobi and 240km north of Mombasa in Tana River district of coast province, Kenya.

Tsavo East National Park
Though not well developed like Tsavo West, Tsavo East is more accessible.

Tourist Attractions
It is home to various animals i.e. lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes, etc.

Location of Tsavo East National Park
It lies to the east of the Nairobi – Mombasa road, equidistant between Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya.

Much of the park is level, open country with scattered rocky ridges and outcrops. Due to its size, the park is one of the world's wildlife and biodiversity strongholds.

Tsavo West National Park
Tsavo West National Park is one of the biggest national park in Kenya that attracts tourists in the millions in Kenya each year.

Tourist Attractions
In Tsavo West you can watch elephants bathe among the hippos and the crocodiles from a unique vantage point of an under-water glass tank. The "Big Five" do live here, but you have to look carefully to spot them.

The Best time to Visit Tsavo West
The best time would be between May to October

Wasini Island
Wasini is a great place to go to. Heavily wooded with no cars, roads or running water, you are guaranteed peace here.

Attractions and Holiday Events
It takes a couple of hours to stroll around the island on narrow footpaths and en route you will come across Muslim ruins, local women and men at work in the sun, and coral gardens which you can walk through - rather like snorkeling on land. Occasionally during spring tides, these gardens are claimed back by the sea when the tides rush in. Wasini Restaurant runs a regular boat service between Shimoni and the island.

One may depart early morning for the tranquil fishing village of Shimoni close to the Tanzanian border, through lush coconut and cashew plantations and the colorful villages of the Digo People.

Wood Carvers Village
This village consists entirely of woodcarvers. Here from the lump of wood being earnestly contemplated to 'see' what it will become, you can watch right through to the finished article which is sold in the shop on the grounds.
