GREAT PICNIC SITES IN NAIROBI - Part II

1.      Arboretum
It is a popular recreational park for many city residents to visit.  For those looking for tranquility, holding picnics and also those who go to hold different activities, this is the place to visit.

The Arboretum combines space, fresh air, and pristine forest, its protected forest reserve holds different species of indigenous and exotic plants, birds and a significant number of Monkeys.

     Location of the Nairobi Arboretum
The Arboretum is situated 3km from the city center. For those who don’t drive it can easily be accessed on foot through State House Road, past St. Paul’s Cathedral near University of Nairobi
     Another entrance to the park is on Arboretum Drive in Kileleshwa.

     Entry Requirements
     The Park is open for free to the public to visit except for a parking fee.

2.      Central Park
Central Park has well maintained gardens, interspersed with shade trees.  Quite an ideal site for picnic lovers to visit,

Locating Central Park
The park is located behind Nairobi Serena Hotel; it occupies an area bounded by Kenyatta Avenue, Nyerere Avenue and Uhuru Highway.

Entry Requirements
The Park is open for free to the public. The Nairobi City Council, however, charges for use of toilet facilities in the Park.

3.      City Park
Nairobi City Park stands above most in its rich biodiversity with indigenous tree species that are endemic to Kenya.  It is also used as a picnic site.

Tucked away on a portion of the Park is a public cemetery and adjacent to this cemetery is Murumbi Peace Memorial Park.

Locating City Park
The Park is situated in Parklands area, for those who would like to visit the site using public means; board Matatu No. 11A, 106, 107 at Koja (Old Nation House) bus terminus or matatu No.100 at Bus Station (BS)

Entry Requirements
City Park is open for free to the public to visit. There is a charge for use of the toilet facilities in the Park.

4.      Uhuru Gardens
Uhuru Gardens has extensive areas for picnics or general relaxation.

Location of Uhuru Gardens
Uhuru Gardens is situated in the Langata area of Nairobi, along Langata Road, bordering Carnivore Restaurant to the south, and Wilson Airport to the east.

To visit the site using public means; Board Matatu No. 24,126 from Railways Bus Terminus or matatu no.15 from Central Bus Station (BS)

5.      Uhuru Park
It’s one of the most attractive green spaces in the city.  For Picnic lovers, Uhuru Park provides the ideal setting and also features some monuments.
 
Locating Uhuru Park
The Park is situated on Uhuru Highway, across from Nairobi Intercontinental Hotel, bounded by Kenyatta Avenue to the North.

Entry Requirements
The Park is open for free to the public. The Nairobi City County, however, charges for boat rides, and for the use of toilet facilities in the Park.

You now know, there are those that you don’t even need to board any matatu from the city center they are just a few steps away.
