HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS IN MOMBASA - NORTH COAST KENYA



The Coastline north of Mombasa is livelier and portrays a world of history and natural beauty. It has a wide range of accommodation from luxury resorts to beach bungalows. What makes it even more preferred by many tourists is the fact that the resorts are closer to the airport and Mombasa city.  

Amboseli National Park
Amboseli is home to more than 50 species of mammal and over 400 species of bird. It has elephants, hippos, cheetahs, leopards and many more. The Park has breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro (in Tanzania) and has also several camp sites for people who would like to go camping.

Amboseli National Park lies on the North West of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Kenya, at the border of Kenya and Tanzania. 

Best time to Visit the Park
The best time to visit the Park would be from June – October.

Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve
Arabuko National Park is an important habitat for endemic/endangered birds, insects and mammals.

Arabuko Sokoke is located in Kilifi approximately 110km North of Mombasa town. 


Bombolulu Workshops
Bombolulu Workshop Centre is run by the Association for the physically disabled and most of the workers are disabled.  They produce jewelry, hand printed textiles, wood carvings and leather crafts which are sold in large showrooms and some exported to other countries. 

They are a major tourist attraction which consists of a cultural Centre with homesteads and traditional restaurants that entertains guests with traditional dances throughout the day.  The traditional homesteads exhibit the culture of the locals which draws so many tourists across to come and learn more about different cultures.

The Bombolulu workshops are located along the north coast of Mombasa.

Gedi Ruins
Gedi Ruins is built of rocks, preserved as a National Museum. It presents itself as a historical Arab-African town.

Jumba la Mtwana ruins
Jumba la Mtwana is a picturesque ruined village of ancient homes. It has excellent Monsoons bistro in its stunning location on the beach, a picnic site and a great beach for swimming.

Jumba la Mtwana is in Kilifi district, it is about 15km North of Mombasa town, 20 kilometres north of Mombasa town.

Malindi Marine National Park
Malindi Marine National Park is Africa’s Oldest Marine Park, famous for the Zebra fish.

The park is located about 118 km north east of Mombasa town, south of Malindi town, Kenya.

North Coast Beaches
The palm-lined beaches, crystal clear waters, coral reefs, and a profusion of water sports, resorts, and entertainment venues provide plenty of tourist action. The beaches provide an ideal space for parties and nature walks.

Nyali Beach  
Nyali beach is the first stop travelling from Mombasa to the North.

Bamburi Beaches
Bamburi beaches include Mombasa Serena Beach, Whitesands Beach etc.

Shanzu Beach
Located along the northern coastal line it is also a tourist hub.

Rabai Museum
Visitors can have a walk in the sacred Kaya forest of the Mijikenda people and a stop at the first church built in the interior a few metres away from the museum.

Rabai is 25 kilometres northwest of Mombasa off the Nairobi–Mombasa highway on the Mazeras – Kaloleni road.
