Matatus
are public service vehicles, so please let’s try to be sensitive and
accommodate one another. Here are some of the annoying habits that passengers
have experienced while traveling using matatus.
Ø Matatu touts/conductors forcing
someone to pay double or alight because they are a plus size; and this is what
a tout would tell you, “madam we shuka , we ni mnono sana ama utalipia viti
mbili” (Madam alight, you are too big or are you going to pay for two seats)
Ø At times some matatus may not get to
the intended destination, this happens most of the times and passengers get
delayed on the way.
Ø If you forget to ask for your change
from a conductor he will not give you; some matatus have gone as far as putting
stickers on matatus saying ‘Kulipa ni Lazima, change ni ukikumbuka” (paying is
a must, but you will get your change if only you remember to ask for it)
Ø Some passengers when with a cough,
they cough anyhow without even minding about the person seated next to them. Please when you have a cough as a passenger
try to cover your mouth while coughing or else you intend to infect everyone in
the matatu.
Ø It is true that it is not good to
pip at someone’s phone but then again it is so annoying when someone starts
chatting/browsing and from time to time keeps on looking at the person seated
next to him/her to confirm they are not looking at their phone even when the
person is minding his/her own business.
